PH logs 37,207 new Covid-19 cases for 2nd straight day high

THE Philippines logged a high number of coronavirus disease 2019 cases for the second straight day on Friday at 37,20, the Department of Health (DoH) said. Thursday’s figure was at 34,021.

The new daily tally pushed the count of active cases to 265,509, the DoH said.

Of the 37,207 new cases that were reported, 98 percent, or 36,577, were from January 1-14, with 80 percent in the National Capital Region (NCR), Calabarzon and Central Luzon. Calabarzon is Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon.

Positivity rate remained at 47.3 percent, with 81,737 samples processed at 304 testing laboratories, Eight failed to submit their data to the DoH.

Of the total number of captive cases, 98 percent, or around 260,000 cases, were mild or asymptomatic; 1,469, severe; and 300, critical.

There were 9,027 recoveries that were added to the 2.811 million Covid survivors, or 89.8 percent of the 3.13 million total number of cases in the country. Death toll is at 52,815, with 81 new fatalities.

Occupancy rate in hospitals in the NCR is at 55 percent for Covid-19 patients in intensive care units (ICUs) and in isolation and 67 percent in wards.
