METRO Manila and several other areas will remain under Alert Level 3 until the end of January, MalacaƱang announced on Friday, amid rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in the country.

Acting Palace spokesman Karlo Alexei Nograles said the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, during its meeting on Thursday, agreed to retain Alert Level 3 in the National Capital Region (NCR) from January 16 to 31.

Metro Manila has been under Alert Level 3 since January 3 amid the uptick in Covid-19 cases and the threat of the Omicron variant.

Under Alert Level 3, several establishments are allowed to operate at 30 percent indoor venue capacity only for fully vaccinated individuals and 50 percent outdoor venue capacity, provided that all employees are fully vaccinated.

Face-to-face classes, contact sports, funfairs/perya, and casinos are among the activities and establishments that are prohibited under Alert Level 3.

Work at government offices is limited to 60 percent of their onsite capacity.

On Thursday, the country reported a record-high 34,021 new Covid-19 cases, raising the country’s total confirmed infections to 3,092,409.
